Tractor pulling began in the late 1970’s and grew very fast until it had really come of age in the Mid 1980’s. Today, the sport is growing faster than ever, gaining popularity and corporate sponsors on the local, state and national stages.

The National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA) oversees many different levels of competition including: Grand National, Regional National and State Level events. Larry Flood pulls at the state level in North Carolina with the United Pullers of the Carolinas.

This organization puts on 17 pulls during the summer in North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina. The pulls are held Friday and Saturday nights with 3000 cheering spectators in attendance each night. There are seven different classes of competition:

5000 horsepower Modified Tractors
3000 horse power Super Stock Tractors
Lite 4x4 Trucks
National 4x4 Trucks
2500 horse power Two Wheel Drive Trucks
Super Farm
2500 horse power Mini Modified Tractors
